Baltimore Pow-Wow

The Lumbee Ambassadors took their first road trip to the 34th Annual Baltimore American Indian Center Pow-Wow on August 22-24. We loaded up bright & early on Friday in the LRDA van and one other vehicle and set out for Baltimore. We had a good trip, and the girls especially enjoyed riding through Washington, DC on the way.

The pow-wow opened Friday afternoon in Patterson Park in downtown Baltimore, and the Ambassadors were greeted warmly by the spectators and participants. Saturday was the busiest day, as the Ambassadors spent nearly all day at the park dancing, posing for photos, and mingling with the large crowd. Ashley was selected as the Head Female Dancer, and she did a great job representing our tribe. The girls were happy that everyone seemed so glad that they were able to come and participate.

We were also able to relax during the evenings, as we enjoyed the sights of the Inner Harbor. It was fun taking in the sights of the city (except for trying to park the van). Page summed our inner-city excursions up best when she remarked, "This is not like Pembroke!"

We returned safely home late Sunday evening. We were tired, but we enjoyed the experiences and each other's fellowship as well.

Thank you, Baltimore, for your hospitality and a fun weekend!

Silly Girls & Silly Moms

Candlelight Prayer Service

The Lumbee Ambassadors attended a candlelight prayer service to pray for the Federal Recognition Bill that is now in the U.S. Senate. The prayer service was at Redeemed Assembly Church outside of Lumberton and was hosted by the Lumbee Tribe. The theme of the evening was one of praise - praise to Jesus for all he has done and continues to do for the Lumbee people.
