U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole visits Lumberton

U.S. Senator, Elizabeth Dole, visited Lumberton Monday evening for a ribbon cutting at the Republican Party's new election headquarters. About 200 people attended the event. Sen. Dole addressed the crowd and then was available for greetings and pictures. During her address, Sen. Dole asked not only for our vote, but also for our prayers. The highlight of the evening came when Drew gave Senator Dole one of her signature cards. Drew had written on the card, "I can't vote, but I can pray. Philippians 4:13" After thanking Drew for the picture and commenting on how beautiful Drew is, Sen. Dole then handed the card to one of her assistants and told him to hang on to the card that she was going to read Philippians 4:13 as part of her devotion that evening.

Before every event that Drew attends, we pray that Drew will not only represent the Lumbee Tribe well, but most of all that she will represent Jesus well and that others will see Jesus in her.

Senator Dole, best wishes in the upcoming election and remember... You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength.

Chevy to the Levee

After church on Sunday, the Chavis family headed out to Luther Britt Park to enjoy the activities at Chevy to the Levee. Drew, Kayla, Ashley and Nicholas enjoyed the rock climbing wall. Drew, Kayla, and Ashley also enjoyed the canoe ride. Congratulations to Kyle, Drew's dad, who came in first place in his age group in the 5K. His time was 21:42. Way to go Dad! While at the Chevy to the Levee, the girls also volunteered their time to help with the events. Ashley sang the National Anthem twice. All three ambassadors helped hand out the medals to those who completed the Family Fun Mile.

Waccamaw Siouan 38th Annual Powwow

After the Fairmont parade, the girls headed to Bolton, NC for the Waccamaw Siouan Powwow. Cold & Wet is the best way to describe the powwow. After a two hour rain delay, the powwow finally began. The girls danced one inter-tribal dance and then cuddled in the tent the rest of the afternoon and watched the competition dancers. Drew was a real trouper. Not once did she complain. She was, however, thankful for a hot bath and a warm bed when she finally got home Saturday night.

Fairmont Farmers' Festival Parade

Drew, Kayla, and Page participated in the Fairmont Farmers' Festival Parade on Saturday, October 18, 2008. Although it was cool, the girls were glad that the rain moved out in time for the parade to begin. The parade had 125 entries including floats, tractors, a lot of Shriners, many queens, and Miss North Carolina, Amanda Watson. Thanks to Uncle Gene and Rowland Motor Company for the cool car. Thanks also to Nana who made the cute cow outfit for Drew to wear in the parade. Oh, I almost forgot, thanks to Drew's chauffeur, her Dad, Kyle Chavis.

The Old Bags Brunch for Babies, a March of Dimes fundraiser, is an annual event hosted by the Bladen County Fourth of July Queens. Miss North Carolina, Amanda Watson, was the event's special guest. Miss North Carolina even donated one of her own bags for the auction. Drew had a great time. Queens, pocketbooks, spaghetti, and cake......What more could a princess ask for?

3rd Annual Born to Cruise

Drew attended the Third Annual Born to Cruise car show and toy drive held at Biggs Park Mall on Sunday, October 12, 2008. Drew had the privilege of cruising with Charles and Ellen Babson in Mr. Charles' vintage Mustang. Thanks, Mr. Charles, for the cool ride! Drew also saw Santa and told him that she wants a puppy for Christmas. Later, Drew commented that she knew that wasn't the real Santa because Santa doesn't wear shorts.
