Merry Christmas from the Chavis Family!

Lumbee Guaranty Bank Christmas Party

Drew with Janet Newton of Lumbee Guaranty Bank

The girls had the privilege of entertaining at the Lumbee Guaranty Bank Christmas party. They entertained for about an hour. Entertaining 200 people for an hour is not an easy task. While they aren't yet ready to turn professional, they did a great job and I was proud of them for their effort and teamwork.

Goofing off after the show! L for Lumbee, not for loser!

Caring Touch Home Health Care Christmas Party

Ms. Donna and Mr. Charles really know how to throw a party! Everyone had a good time. The food was delicious and who doesn't like getting presents? Ms. Donna set the tone for the evening when she had everyone sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. Ms. Donna and Mr. Charles give Jesus the credit for their success. In return, they give back generously to their employees and their community. Thank you, Mr. Charles and Ms. Donna, for all you do!

Drew gave Mr. Charles a BIG hug after he gave her an iPod.
She was sooooo excited!

Drew made her solo singing debut at the party. She sang "Happy Birthday, Jesus." Did I mention that there were about 1, 300 people at this party? Mom was a nervous wreck, but Drew was calm and collected.

Sugar & Spice Commercial Shoot

Sugar and Spice invited the girls to model for their commercial. The commercial will air in Lumberton theaters before every movie during the month of January. Drew and Kayla had a great time playing dress-up in all of the cool clothes and accessories at Sugar and Spice. A special thanks to Shan Musselwhite (pictured above) of Sugar & Spice for all she does!

Groundbreaking Ceremony

Drew was so excited to be a part of the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lumbee Boys & Girls Club and Community Center. The new center will be located in Tribal District 2 at the intersection of Hilly Branch and Back Swamp roads. The community center will provide a place for tribal members to meet, fellowship and have social events. It will also host a Lumbee Boys & Girls Club which Drew is looking forward to attending. Below are the remarks that Drew made at the ceremony.

"Hello, Everyone. I'm Little Miss Lumbee, Emily Drew Chavis, and I would like to welcome each and every one of you to today's groundbreaking ceremony. I live right down the road and I am proud to call this community my home. So, on behalf of the boys and girls of the Lumbee Tribe, thank you for building this facility for us to learn about our heritage, spend time with our elders, and have fun. Thank you."

Drew's Birthday Pictures

Monday night after the YIELD Christmas Party, Drew went to Nana's to celebrate her birthday. Nana cooked a feast and the whole family was there to celebrate. On Tuesday, her actual birthday, Mom, Dad and Nick went to Fayetteville to celebrate with shopping, lunch at Red Robin, and a trip to Build-A-Bear. Later that evening Drew attended the Tribe's Elders Dinner where all the Elders and guests sang Happy Birthday to her. It was a great birthday!

YIELD Christmas Party

Youth, Interfaith, Empowerment and Leadership Development Project - YIELD

Miss Ashley is a project manager for YIELD. She invited Drew and Kayla, along with Mahlea and Tristan Hunt to entertain at her Christmas party. Drew performed a lyrical routine to "Mary Did You Know?" She also shared the real meaning of Christmas with the group when she quoted Luke 2: 11-14 before she danced. Drew, Kayla, and Mahlea loved the gifts that Miss Ashley gave them. Thanks, Miss Ashley!

Happy Birthday, Drew!

Eight years ago, on December 2, 2000, the Lord blessed the Chavis family with a wonderful 7lb. 12oz. little girl. I thought I had heard Dr. Mitchell-Frye wrong when she said, "Congratulations, it's a girl!" Little girl? Did you say little girl? It took a few seconds for the shock of having a girl to wear off. I thought for the whole nine months that Drew was going to be a boy. We didn't have an ultrasound to determine the sex of the baby. There was no need to. I knew (or at least I thought I knew) the baby was a boy. We were going to name him Andrew Kyle Chavis. Was I disappointed that she was a girl? Absolutely not! Terrified, but not disappointed at all. You see, I'm not at all a girly girl. Sure I wear make-up and I like to dress up on occasion, but hair ribbons, frilly dresses, and make-up are not my thing. How would I ever be able to take care of a little girl?

Drew has definitely turned out to be a girly girl. She loves all things pink. She enjoys wearing make-up, playing dress-up, and getting her nails done at Miss Tabbie's Nail Spa. She enjoys participating in pageants. I cannot describe how frightened I was the first time Drew announced that she was going to be in a pageant. (Thank goodness for H/M people!)

Drew brings such joy to our family. She has a gentle and quiet spirit; yet, she is the most outgoing member of our family. She is content being alone, but loves to be with family and friends as well. She loves to dance, sing, watch TV, and shop.

Drew understands that beauty comes from the inside. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in 2007. Her favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13, and she lives by it. Drew has big dreams for now and for the future, and I don't believe she will let anything stop her.

Drew, I look forward to seeing what God has in store for you. I know that He is going to use you for His glory. Keep trusting in Him. We love you and are so glad that you are Drew and not Andrew!

Happy 8th Birthday, Princess!
We Love You Infinity,
Dad, Mom, and Nicholas

Breath of Heaven Video

Drew and I love this You Tube video. We have watched it hundreds of times over the last year. This Christmas, Drew will dance to the Chelsea Boyd version of Mary Did You Know. She will also perform to Christmas Shoes. Her lyrical is improving; so, maybe she'll be ready for Breath of Heaven by next Christmas.

(Check out the arabesques and fouettes about 2 minutes into the song. Drew says to tell you it's not as easy as it looks!)
