FIT 4 Life

Miss Lumbee, Ashley Haywood, hosted the 1st Annual Obesity Awareness Day & Family Expo on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Pembroke Recreation Park. The event focused on promoting healthy lifestyles and cultural awareness. The morning began with a Fun Walk/Run and was followed by special guest speaker, Diane Zapaltas. Mrs. Zapaltas is a Registered Dietitian and spoke on making healthy eating choices and living a healthy lifestyle. Other speakers included Ms. April Whittemore and Mr. John Oxendine. Entertainment was provided by Drew, Kayla, Page, and special guest Brandi Scott.

The event offered games, dancing, face painting, door prizes, free health screenings, and vendors promoting healthy lifestyles and the importance of exercise.

Miss Lumbee also presented Danika Locklear with an $1,100 scholarship check. Ms. Locklear is pursuing a nursing degree.
